Find Art & Design work near you!Online portfolio website, RiseCreatives, launches their augmented reality layer showing the location of members’ art and craft work in shops, galleries and studios around Ireland.

RiseCreatives, an online portfolio website that showcases the work of new and emerging as well as established artists and designer-makers, has launched its Augmented Reality layer for the iphone and Android market.

The RiseCreatives layer can be downloaded from the Art section of the Layar.com website. Once launched it automatically activates the camera view and immediately identifies if there is any members’ work available within a 10 km radius. On the mobile phone screen the user will see markers, which when clicked displays details of the member on the screen including the member's name, an image of their work, the name and location of the shop or gallery as well as a map showing the direct route to the location. There is also a link to the member's web space for further information.

Members currently featured in the layer include;
Dublin – Emma Bourke, Cianán Doyle, Emer Duffy, Sinéad Glynn, Lesley Kelly, Vivienne Martin, Nuala McHugh, Sabrina Meyns, Eily O’Connell, Declan Shalvey, and Rowena Sheen.
Belfast - Gemma O'Hare
Maynooth - Ger Breslin – Ojee Jewellery
Killarney - Alison Walsh
Galway – Vivienne Martin

The project was a collaboration between co-founder of RiseCreatives Nina Lyons (Graphic Designer) and member Michelle O’Connor (Illustrator/Digital Media). Nina Lyons commented: “Here at RiseCreatives we need to be able to adopt new technologies and assess their relevance to our members. Mobile phones have taken on a greater emphasis in people’s lives in recent years with the launch of the iphone and the android equivalents. People are using their phones differently. We felt this advancement in the use of mobile phones would be very valuable to our members. It is the missing link between their online profiles and their physical work in the real world. For people who are so used to viewing our members’ work online it will give them the opportunity to locate and access our members’ work in galleries and shops around them.”

The RiseCreatives layer can be viewed through the Layar app which is available free from the App Store and on the Android Marketplace www.layar.com/layers/risecreatives
